The greater Anchorage, Alaska, area is littered with rivers and streams that receive a run of silver salmon, or coho, each summer and early fall. These systems provide ample opportunity for locals and tourists to catch a few tasty salmon on Fire Cure roe as we discuss in this episode of Pautzke Outdoors filmed on the Seward Highway. The very word ‘Alaska' makes you think 'adventure'. It is the most far flung destination we've visited, and it was not only the fish and wildlife that were a little different - the American fishing lodge, and the intrepid American anglers that stayed there with us were something else. Matt catches his first ever Salmon and gets a look at one of the most prolific fisheries in the world.
It's the first salmon run of the season at Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage and it's time to get out your rod and land a fish. Here's what you'll need to slay your first king. Read the full list here: http://j.mp/1GoqHDw
Each summer, hundreds of millions of salmon return to the Prince William Sound of Alaska. This enables one of the most sustainable fisheries on the planet, of which, I am a very proud fisherman. I work on the F/V Rafferty alongside my brother and two other friends. This video compilation was shot during our 2015 season to give you an idea of what our days look like and how we catch our fish--1.8M pounds in 2015! Enjoy and follow along with the rest of my adventures at WillfullyLiving.com!
The sheer volume of salmon that return to Bristol Bay each year is truly astounding. For those who haven't visited Alaska, it's really hard to conceptualize 32 million fish - the average sockeye return in Bristol Bay. This video gives a glimpse of the bio mass that enter the rivers and streams that make up the Bristol Bay watershed. Filmed exclusively in 2015 on the Copper River with Copper River Lodge.
